Active Abundance Open House - Pinafore Park, St Thomas - September 15th 2012
In Pinafore Park on Saturday September 15th 2012 a family oriented martial arts community gathered to celebrate together. This year commemorates the start of Active Abundance as well as the 25th Anniversary of World Seikido. Together, Masters from Active Abundance and World Seikido demonstrated and explained martial arts techniques for the enjoyment of onlookers.
The Open House event was supported by several local businesses. Briwood Farm Market donated fresh fruits and vegetables that were prepare and packaged into trays by Kathy’s Catering and Bakery. Others (Mark’s Work Wearhouse Ltd, Elgin Chrysler Jeep Dodge, St. Thomas Ford Lincoln SVT, Mike’s Garage and Auto Sales, and St. Thomas Health Club) donated various items for door prizes. Active abundance was also proud to show support for the local Summer Company Program by purchasing cookies form 3H Goodies and cupcakes from Dude with an Oven. This event would not have been possible without the community working together and supporting each other.
Elizabeth Windover, owner/manager of Active Abundance, expressed her concern and compassion about the needs of people around us, “We should all be able to live a full and healthy life. That’s what Active Abundance is all about, providing fun family fitness and healthy nutrition in ways that are affordable to all. Not everyone can afford a personal trainer.”
In addition to being a Master Instructor, 4thDegree Black Belt, with World Seikido, Elizabeth graduated with honours from the Health, Fitness and Nutrition Consultant program at Everest College. She has CanFitPro certifications for Nutrition and Wellness Specialist (NWS), Personal Trainer Specialist (PTS), and Fitness Instructor Specialist (FIS). This additional education allows Elizabeth to use martial arts to provide an emphasis on fitness. Active Abundance is based on sound fitness and nutrition knowledge that is current for today’s society.
“Active Abundance fitness classes use martial arts techniques along with current cardio and strength training practises to provide an active family activity without physical contact between participants.” Elizabeth explained how this family learning experience continues the World Seikido tradition where different generations not only learn the same things but also learn from each other by working together.
“Fitness and nutrition are basic factors of wellness which is a key measure of quality of life in our society. Active abundance promotes self growth: helping people of all ages to improve their quality of life by enhancing their wellness - physically, mentally, and spiritually - through martial arts based fitness and nutrition based wellness.”
